CEDARVILLE, OH. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team shot at high percentage and saw five players reach double figures in a 95-55 victory over Cedarville University on Thursday evening. The Panthers completed the season sweep of the Yellow Jackets by shooting over 51% from the field and converting eight of 24 three-point attempts.
The Panthers never trailed in the contest as they moved their record to 18-5 overall with a 13-4 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Cedarville drops to 5-19 and 3-14 in G-MAC play.
Sydnee Richetto and
Shiya Hoosier started the scoring with the first two baskets of the game. The Panthers used their stifling defense from the opening jump. Wesleyan scored 10 points off the Yellow Jackets turnovers in the opening period which help build a 23-12 lead.
Wesleyan continued its dominance in the second quarter as an 11-0 run through the middle of the frame saw the Panthers build a 36-15 lead. The rally was capped off by
Jordyn Barga's three-point play. Wesleyan went into the locker-room with a 40-18 lead.
The Panthers' shooting heated-up in the third quarter, converting at 61% in the frame. Six different players scored in the Panthers' 13-1 run to start the second half. The early rally all but sunk the Yellow Jackets' hopes of making a comeback. The hot shooting did not stop there for the Panthers as they outscored Cedarville 30-9 in the frame.
Down the stretch the Panthers were able to see the entire roster involved in the contest. Both
Corina Conley and Barge finished with 17 points. Barga also collected eight rebounds and three assists. Richetto and
Jordan Gillies added 15 points while Richetto also recorded nine rebounds.
Shaylee McDonald scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Panthers will travel to Pepper Pike, Ohio on Saturday for a much-anticipated match-up against Ursuline. The Arrows carry a 17-8 record into the contest with a 10-7 mark in league play. Tip-off is scheduled for 1PM CT.
