Box Score 2 OWENSBORO, KY - The good weather didn't translate to on-field success for the Panthers on Monday, as they fell 7-4 and 21-8 to the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons.
UMSL improves to 5-3 on the year while Wesleyan falls to 0-7.
Game One
The Panthers came out hot, scoring four runs in the top of the first to take a quick 4-0 lead.
Kyle Werries singled home
Cade Moore, and
Braxton French followed that up with a single to score Werries.
Tate VanHooser knocked in French with an RBI double, and
Noah Davis close out the scoring for the Panthers with an RBI double to center to score VanHooser.
Despite the strong start, Wesleyan failed to score the rest of the game. Missouri-St. Louis grinded their way back, and a three-run seventh allowed them to take the lead. An insurance run in the top of the ninth was enough to secure the victory.
Cade Moore went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the loss, while
Noah Davis also collected two hits and helped out with an RBI.
Austin Baugh (0-1) took the loss for the Panthers.
Game Two
The offense was firing on all cylinders in game two, as there were 29 combined and 26 hits in the contest.
Nick Wimber scored on a wild pitch to give the Panthers an early lead, but the Tritons scored 10 unanswered runs to go up 10-1 after the top of the fifth. A few bases loaded walks, a
Bryce Zupan sacrifice fly, and a Rowan Terran RBI in the fifth put them back in the game, making it just 10-5.
Missouri-St. Louis put the Panthers away with 11 runs in the final two innings, giving them 21 on the day.
Nick Wimber homered in the sixth to stop the bleeding.
Nick Wimber went 2-for-2 with two RBI's, three runs scored, and two walks in the game, while
Kyle Werries was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Nick Judd (0-1) struck out two in the loss.
The Panthers will be back at home next weekend when they host the University of Purdue-Northwest in a four-game series. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT. Saturday will be a doubleheader starting at noon, while Sunday will be a solo game, also starting a noon.
