SMYRNA, TN - Softball opened up the Music City Invitational in a big way on Friday, taking down UW-Parkside 5-3 in the opener. Their second game against Ferris State was canceled due to poor weather conditions.
The Panthers bring their record to an even 2-2, while Parkside is now 0-1.
The Rangers got on the board first, scoring two runs on a triple in the top of the second. The Panthers answered right back in the bottom of the inning, as an RBI single off the bat of
Cam Mann scored
Kristyn Murphy, making it a 2-1 Parkside lead.
Wesleyan took the lead in the bottom of the third, as RBI's from Mann,
Kennedy Matheis, and
Brooke Brown put the Panthers up 4-2. A few innings later, a
Megan Matheis RBI scored
Chloe Apple, giving the Panthers an extra insurance run. UWP got on back in the seventh, but
Immi Mann held on for the save.
Cam Mann led the way, going 3-for-3 with two RBI's.
Augusta Garr went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Madison Beckhart (1-1) got the win in 2.1 innings of action.
Immi Mann grabbed the save.
The Panthers have tomorrow off before they travel back down to Smyrna on Sunday to take on Purdue Northwest and McKendree. First pitches are scheduled for 10 a.m. and noon.
