SMYRNA, TN - It was a strong finish to the Music City Invitational for the Panthers, as they took down McKendree 4-3 in their final game. In the morning game, Purdue-Northwest won by a 9-1 score over the Panthers .
Game One
The first game started off well for the Panthers, as
Megan Matheis got an RBI on a groundout to second in the top of the first to quickly put Wesleyan up 1-0. Purdue-Northwest came back with nine runs in the bottom of the inning and Wesleyan couldn't come back, falling 9-1.Â
Immi Mann took the loss for the Panthers, while
Cam Mann registered the team's only hit.Â
Game Two
The Panther's second game went much better than the first.
Kristyn Murphy opened up the scoring by stealing home in the bottom of the second. McKendree came back with another run in the bottom of the inning, but Wesleyan answered right back in the bottom of the third. Thanks to an error by the right fielder,
Augusta Garr scampered home to put the Panthers back ahead. On the very next play,
Allie Dunn hit a huge triple to score
Megan Matheis, putting the Panthers up two. Lauren Pellarito scored Wesleyan's final run late in the inning, taking advantage of a passed ball to make it 4-1 after three.Â
The game went scoreless for the next few innings before Mckendree tacked on two in the top of the sixth to make it just a one-run game.
Immi Mann shut all hope of a comeback down in the final inning, striking out two to get the save and get Wesleyan back to .500 (3-3).Â
Augusta Garr went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while
Allie Dunn was 1-for-3 with an RBI.Â
Madison Beckhart (2-1) went five innings to get the win, while
Immi Mann grabbed the save.Â
Wesleyan will be back in action next weekend when they host the Blue Bridge Battle at Deaconess Sports Park in Evansville, Indiana. They take on Lincoln (Mo.) and Notre Dame (Oh.) on Friday and Missouri S&T and Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday.Â
