COLUMBUS, OH. – Fresh off a two-week break, the Ohio Dominican University basketball team showed plenty of rust on Thursday evening as the Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team picked-up a 96-56 win. ODU was playing in its ninth G-MAC contest. On the other side of the ledger, Wesleyan was playing in its 12
th league game.
The Panthers (14-6, 8-4 GMAC) led from the opening tip. Wesleyan held the lead for 19 minutes in the first half en route to a nearly insurmountable 49-22 lead. ODU (3-13, 0-9 GMAC) had seven players dressed and sat in a zone defense throughout the night. The cushion on the perimeter yielded 12 three-point buckets on 18 attempts.
Logan McIntire came off the bench to knocked down three shots in less than two minutes. A 24-4 Wesleyan run midway through the first half all but sunk ODU. McIntire accounted for eight points in the run that gave the Panthers a 32-11 lead.
Wesleyan shot 59% in the opening half, hitting 19 of 32 shots from the field.
Borja Fernandez finished with 14 first half points. The Panthers did not slow down in the second half as the lead grew to 30 points with 12 minutes left in the game. Wesleyan shot over 62% from the field in the second half and finished the game at 60%.
Fernandez finished with 19 points on eight of 10 shooting. McIntire added 16 points off the bench while
Kaeveon Mitchell scored 15 points on four of four shooting with five assists.
Edward Jones Jr. recorded 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Panthers will travel to Canton, Ohio on Saturday to play Malone. Tip-off is scheduled for 2PM CT.
