Crestview Hills, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan football team suffered a 47-12 defeat at the hands of the Thomas More Saints on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers fell to 2-8 overall and 1-7 in the G-MAC, while the Saints improved to 4-6 overall and 3-5 in the G-MAC.
The Saints started fast, scoring on their first drive of the game, but the Panthers responded with a 12-play, 88-yard drive that took up 7:43 of game time and was capped off by a Joey Cambron – Jatavian Churchill touchdown pass to cut the lead to 7-6.
Thomas More then scored 40 unanswered points over the next three quarters. Wesleyan was able to notch another score on the second Cambron to Churchill touchdown of the game, but the Saints took home the 47-12 win over their in-state rivals.
Cambron went 25-39 for 226 yards and two touchdowns in total. Churchill was his leading receiver, tallying a career-high nine catches and 101 yards on top of his two scores.
Although the senior struggled on Saturday, Brandon Mackey set a new school-record with 859 total rushing yards this season.
Defensively, John Purdy and Josh Noble led the unit with 12 tackles each and the latter added two tackles for loss. Jhor'dan Inniss also continued his stellar play with eight tackles and a tackle for loss, and Mason Bell recorded an interception as well.
The Panthers play their final game of the season next Saturday, November 16, against the Ashland Eagles. Kickoff is set for 12 PM in Ashland, Ohio.
