Wesleyan Falls in Season Finale

Panthers finish with most wins since 2019

Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team fell 5-3 against Thomas More in the final game of the 2024 season on Wednesday night at Panther Field.

Wesleyan finishes the season at 5-13-0 overall and 4-10-0 in the G-MAC, while Thomas More completes the year at 6-8-3 overall and 3-8-3 in the G-MAC.

The match got off to a very fast start, with five combined goals in the first 30 minutes. The Saints earned the lead first with a 5th-minute goal, but Haley Osborne responded with back-to-back goals in the 11th and 15th minutes to put the Panthers up 2-1. The first was thanks to a magnificent assist by Steeley Walker and the second was a penalty kick score.

Thomas More earned consecutive goals in the 25th and 30th minutes to retake the lead, as Andjela Popovic tallied assists on both scores after scoring the first goal for the Saints.

Popovic struck again in the 52nd minute, recording her second goal of the night to double the Thomas More lead at 4-2.

The Panthers never stopped trying to claw back, as Maci Onstott logged her first goal of the season in the 78th minute on a ball that just got over the goalkeeper's leap, but a 90-minute score would prove to be the dagger in the 5-3 defeat.

Wesleyan finished with eight corner kicks to Thomas More's zero, earning plenty of opportunities in the match. The Saints' defense in the box was the deciding factor in the high-scoring affair.

The Panthers' five wins this season are the most for the program since 2019, when Wesleyan won eight matches.
