Late Run Leads Panthers Over King

Logan McIntire pours in 30 points on 13-17 shooting

Owensboro, Ky. – Logan McIntire's 30 points and a 27-4 closing run by the Panthers led the Kentucky Wesleyan men's basketball team to an 86-76 win over King University on Saturday afternoon inside the Owensboro Sportscenter.

The Panthers improved to 4-2 overall (0-0 G-MAC) while the Tornado fell to 2-5 overall (0-0 Carolinas).

Wesleyan also extended their all-time series lead over King to 4-0 with the victory.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with a three-pointer by Edward Jones Jr. putting the Panthers up 33-29 with just under seven minutes to go. The Tornado responded with a 15-4 run to take control at 44-37, but Wesleyan managed to tally the final four points of the half to go into the break down just 44-41.

King maintained their lead for the majority of the second half, culminating in a 72-59 advantage headed into the under-eight media timeout.

Then, the tide began to turn for the Panthers. A quick 9-0 run, capped off by a fastbreak McIntire three, put Wesleyan within four at 72-68 and forced a King timeout with the Sportscenter getting loud.

Coming out, back-to-back threes by Quentin Toles and McIntire gave Wesleyan a late lead at 76-75, a lead that the Panthers would not relinquish on their way to the 86-76 triumph.

McIntire's 30 points is an individual high for Wesleyan this season, as the guard shot a scorching 13-17 from the field and 4-7 from three while adding seven rebounds. Jones Jr. and Kennedy Miles each added 14 points, with the latter recording a team-high eight assists, and Toles logged 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Alex Gray was the spark for the Panthers, notching a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds (seven offensive) to go along with five assists and a 10-13 free-throw shooting afternoon.

The Panthers next take some time off for Thanksgiving before returning home for the first men's/women's doubleheader of the season to begin G-MAC play. The women tip off at 12:00 PM with the men to follow at 2:15 PM.
