Saints Even Season Series with Panthers

CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team lost their final match of the regular season on Saturday. After a scoreless first half Thomas More scored two goals in the second half to come away with a 2-0 Great Midwest victory.

The Panthers end the regular season 9-5-3 overall and 7-4-3 in G-MAC play. The Saints improve to 7-8-2 and 7-4-2 in league play. TMU has one more match this season as they can overtake the Panthers in the league standings next week prior to the start of the Conference Tournament.

Both teams were content to take the match into the second period in a scoreless tie. The Saints out-shot the Panthers 6-2 in the opening half. Neither of the Panthers' attempts were on goal. On the other side, Soufian Khaloufi made four saves in the opening period to preserve a 0-0 tie.

Off a free kick early in the second half, the Saints scored the first goal of the match. A quick foul within the first minute of the period allowed Thomas More to the advantage. Will Fox scored what would be the eventual game-winner as he grounded Cole Greenshields by draping his bodyweight over the Panthers' 6-2 defender.

Shortly thereafter the Panthers had a chance for the equalizer, but a two-on-two situation saw a pass go through the attack and to TMU keeper Emilio Rodriquez. The Saints added another goal in the 75th minute to take a 2-0 lead. Braden Meyers-Curry got another chance in the final 10 minutes, but could not get the shot past Rodriquez.

Xavier Angel finished the game with three shots, one on goal. Meyers-Curry also had three shots, two on goal.

The Panthers are currently in fourth place in the G-MAC standings and have already solidified their second straight Conference Tournament appearance. Ashland, Lake Erie, and Thomas More all have another match left this season. Wesleyan can finish fourth or sixth depending on the results of those matches.

The first round of the G-MAC Tournament will take place on Saturday Nov. 9th
