Late Cavalier goal spells doom for Panthers

OWENSBORO, KY - The Kentucky Wesleyan Men's Soccer team couldn't hold on to a 1-0 halftime lead, as Walsh scored two goals in the second half to take three points from the Panthers.

Walsh improves to 5-2-1 (3-2-0 G-MAC) while Wesleyan falls to 4-2-3 (1-2-2 G-MAC).

On this hot September day, the Panthers struck first. Zach Moore hit a perfect free kick in the 31st minute of play that found the head of Hannes Gronevik, who put it in the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Wesleyan held Walsh to just two shots in the first half, and, despite a flurry of chances late, held a 1-0 lead going into the break.

Wesleyan came out firing in the second half, with Matteo Napoletano just missing on two shots near the goal. The Cavaliers took advantage, and tied things up in the 56th minute of play. Despite Wesleyan holding possession for much of the half, Walsh scored on a 1-on-1 with the goalie with just two minutes remaining to grab the win.

Hannes Gronevik's goal was on his only shot of the game. Haakon Torvbraaten and Mateo Napoletano led with three shots each. Arthur Hill made three saves in the loss.

Wesleyan out-shot the Cavaliers 14-11, while both squads each had five shots-on-goal.

Wesleyan's next scheduled game is Thursday, October 5th, when they travel to Canton, Ohio to take on the Malone Pioneers at 7 p.m. CT.

Wednesday's postponed contest vs. Cedarville could possibly be finished next Tuesday at Panther Field, depending on the team's schedules and availability of referees. More information will be put out about that game at a later date.
