TIFFIN, OH - The Kentucky Wesleyan Volleyball team took an early lead on Friday, but couldn't hold it as Tiffin went on to win 3-1 (25-17, 17-25, 19-25, 14-25).
Tiffin improves to 8-6 (3-3 G-MAC) while Wesleyan falls to 2-12 (1-5 G-MAC).
The Panthers jumped on the Dragons early, using multiple kills from
Nicole Hughes to quickly go up 12-2. Tiffin got a few points back, but two monster kills from
Claire Lange extended Wesleyan's lead to 17-6. Tiffin never truly threatened and a late
Mariah Jones kill gave the Panthers the set victory.
A theme formed in the last three sets, as early on all three were competitive, but once Tiffin hit the 10-point mark they went on a run of at least five points in each set. These runs were costly for the Panthers, as the hole they dug was too much to climb out of. Despite strong games from
Nicole Hughes and
Julia Kupper, Tiffin won the final three sets to take the match.
Nicole Hughes led the way with 15 kills, followed by
Hallie McGuire with eight.
Julia Kupper notched 35 assists, while
Embry Burgess set a new Wesleyan high with 21 digs. Hughes and
Ava Rebarchik each added a block on the night.
The Panthers will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Findlay, Ohio tomorrow to take on the Oilers. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
