OWENSBORO, KY - Despite a shot differential of 22 (28-6), the Panther defense held strong for much of the game, only allowing two Northwood goals. Unfortuantely, a late
Cyia Robertson goal wasn't enough, as Wesleyan fell 2-1 to their foes from up north.
The Timberwolve's offense came out firing, peppering Panther goalie
Elizabeth Burns with 15 shots in the first half. Despite that, Burns only allowed one goal, a penalty kick in the 30th minute that gave Northwood the lead.
The second half saw the Timberwolves double their lead in the 49th minute, thanks to a goal from Mari Jackson.
Cyia Robertson netted in a cross from
Bree Owen to score her first goal of the year in the 76th minute, cutting the visitor lead in half. Despite this goal, the Panthers couldn't overcome the original two-goal deficit and fell by just one goal.
Robertson's goal was her first of the year, and third of her young career. Goalies
Elizabeth Burns and
Kassidy Elkin combined to make 10 saves in the game.
The Panthers will look to get their biggest win in years on Saturday, as they will host the #1 Ashland Eagles, who are coming off a tie with Trevecca Nazarene. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT.
