KANSAS CITY, MO - The Kentucky Wesleyan Volleyball team dropped the finale of the Kansas City Classic 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-18) to Emporia State.
Emporia State moves to 3-0, while Wesleyan fall to 0-4.Â
The Panthers led for much of the first set, as a few big kills from
Nicole Hughes and an ace from
Hallie McGuire helped put the Panthers up 15-10. Wesleyan continued to hold the lead, eventually coming within one point of victory leading 24-22. Emporia State closed out the set by rallying off four straight points to take it 26-24. The late rally from Emporia State seemed to hit the Panthers hard, as they struggled to find their footing in the next two sets. After going down early in both the second and third sets, Wesleyan failed to come back, falling 25-14 and 25-18.Â
Ava Rebarchik led the way with 10 kills and three blocks.
Hallie McGuire notched nine kills and five digs, while
Julia Kupper dished out 26 assists and added six digs. Through four games, Kupper has dished out 109 assists at a rate of 8.38 a set.Â
Wesleyan will head back to Missouri next week when they travel to Rolla to take part in the Missouri S&T Invitational. Their first contest will be against Union (Tenn.) at 12 p.m. CT on Friday, September 8.Â
