PEPPER PIKE, OH - Despite only being out-shot by three in the game, the Kentucky Wesleyan Women's Soccer team failed to find the back of the net, falling to the host Ursuline Arrows 2-0 in Wesleyan's G-MAC opener.
Ursuline improved to 1-2-1 (1-1-0 G-MAC) while Wesleyan falls to 0-3 (0-1 G-MAC).
The Panthers came out firing, as
Claudia Melgar and
Mariah Winge each forced saves from Arrow goalkeeper Morgan Demagall. Ursuline quickly turned the tables on the Panthers, scoring a goal in the fifth minute of play to put them ahead 1-0. Despite four more shots from the Panthers, Ursuline managed to score their second goal of the game in the 34th minute of play. Despite some great chances in the second half, neither team could net a goal and the final score stayed at 2-0 in favor of the Arrows.
Claudia Melgar led the way with four shots, followed by
Ashlyn Payton with two. Ursuline led with 11 shots compared to Wesleyan's eight, and also held a 6-3 edge on shots-on-goal.
The Panthers will travel to Tiffin, Ohio, on Saturday to take on the Tiffin Dragons. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT.
