Baseball drops contest at Florida Southern

LAKELAND, FL - The Panthers put up 11 hits on Monday night, but they left 12 runners on base and fell 8-5 to the Mocs of Florida Southern College.

Florida Southern extends their winnings streak to 10 and improves to 12-4, while Wesleyan falls to 4-7.

Things were rough early for the Panthers, as the Mocs took a 5-0 lead after two innings. Kentucky Wesleyan showed their power in the third inning, as Kyle Werries got the Panthers on the board with a two run shot to left field to score Aric Lyons. Just two at bats later, Zach Curtis continued the trend, hitting a solo shot to make it a 5-3 game after three.

The teams went scoreless over the next few innings before they traded runs near the end of the game. FSC scored a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth, and the Panthers came back with another run in the top of the seventh. Florida Southern scored yet another run in the bottom of the seventh, but Wesleyan came right back, as Aric Lyons hit an RBI single to score Bryce Zupan and make it a 7-5 game. The Mocs scored another run in the top of the ninth, and Wesleyan put two on in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't bring them home.

Aric Lyons continued his very strong season by going 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Kyle Werries went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored, while Zach Curtis tallied two RBI's and hit his sixth home run of the season.
