Panthers Split Day Five in Florida

CLERMONT, FL. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team picked-up another win on Friday morning at THE Spring Games. The Panthers opened the day with an impressive 7-4 win over Millersville University. The afternoon contest saw the Panthers drop an 8-0 contest to Wayne State College.

The Panthers (7-18) jumped out to an early lead in the opening game at 9 AM local time. Augusta Garr reached first with a one-out single then Megan Matheis clubbed her sixth homerun of the season over the right field fence. An error allowed the Panthers to tack on another run as a throwing error brought Grace Colvin home later in the evening.

The Marauders (11-6) got in the scoring column in the top of the second, scoring one run. The Panthers kept the pedal down as Megan Matheis led off the third inning with a walk. With two on and one out, Kennedy Matheis' clutch single to right allowed two runs to score and give Wesleyan a 5-1 lead.

Millersville added one run in the fourth and two in the top of the fifth to pull within 5-4. The Panthers portion of the fifth started just like the third with a walk to Megan Matheis. Kennedy Matheis then picked-up two more RBIs with a double in the left centerfield gap to build a 7-4 lead for the Panthers.

Immi Mann took care of the rest as she pitched a clean sixth and seventh inning to record her second win of the trip. Mann completed seven innings, allowing four runs, three earned runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts. Both Colvin and Kennedy Matheis finished the game with two hits.

A first inning three-run homerun by Wayne State established a 3-0 lead. WSC added a run in the third and scored four in the fifth to end the game. Megan Matheis was two for two in the game.

The Panthers will finish their tour through the Sunshine State with two more games on Saturday morning. Wesleyan will play West Virginia Wesleyan and Pittsburg Johnstown. First pitch at Legends Way Field is scheduled for 8 AM CT.
