Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Joel Krenz, Director of Athletic Communications

Men's Basketball falls at the buzzer to Cedarville, faces Walsh in the first round of the G-MAC Tournament

CEDARVILLE, OH - It was a heartbreaker for the Panthers on Saturday night, as a 20-point comeback fell just short when the Yellow Jackets went the length of the court in three seconds to hit a buzzer beating layup to win 77-76.

Thanks to tiebreakers, Wesleyan will be the No. 8 seed in next week's upcoming G-MAC tournament. They will travel to Walsh, who won the G-MAC regular season title thanks to a surprise Hillsdale lost to Findlay.

Cedarville improves to 18-10 (11-9 G-MAC), while Wesleyan falls to 15-13 (11-9 G-MAC).

Things didn't go the Panther's way early, as Cedarville jumped out to an 18-5 lead just six minutes into the game. The Yellow Jackets didn't let up, pushing their lead to 24 with just six minutes remaining in the half. Wesleyan didn't go quietly, as an Antonio Thomas jumper capped off a 8-0 Panther run to cut the deficit back down to 16. A Kaeveon Mitchell three, another jumper from Thomas, and a Ben Sisson layup capped off a strong finish to the second half and Wesleyan trailed just 41-28 going into the locker rooms.

Down 52-38 four minutes into the second half, the Panthers began to chip away. Thomas hit back-to-back threes to cut the lead to eight, then Jordan Roland hit a few big buckets to cut the lead down to just two. Thomas tied the game at 59-59 with 7:21 remaining, then answered a Cedarville triple with another one of his own to tie it back up at 62. After the teams traded buckets, Roland was fouled near half court with three seconds left, giving him a 1-and-1. He hit both free throws to give Wesleyan the lead. Cedarville then threw a full court pass which found the hands of a Yellow Jacket guard, who passed it to Brayden Sipple by the basket. He failed to convert on the layup attempt, but Grand Whisman was there for the putback layup, winning the game at the buzzer.

Wesleyan shot 26-51 (51%) for the game and 9-22 (40.9%) from three. Cedarville shot 27-61 (44.3%) from the field and 11-31 (35.5%) from behind the arc.

It was a three-man scoring show for the Panthers, as Jordan Roland (26), Antonio Thomas (21), and Ben Sisson (18), combined to score 65 of Wesleyan's 76 points. In typical fashion, Sisson led with nine rebounds, while Roland dished out eight assists. Roland nearly messed around and got a triple double, as he tallied eight rebounds as well.

The Panthers travel to North Canton, Ohio, on Tuesday to take on No. 1 seed Walsh in the G-MAC Quarterfinals. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
