MIDWAY, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team was short-handed on Saturday at Midway. The Panthers lost three duals on the day to Thomas More, Midway, and Brewton-Parker College.
Drayden McKerrow finished the day 3-0 with two major decisions and a pin.
The day started with a 44-4 loss to Thomas More. Wesleyan had to forfeit two weight classes due to injury. The lone winner in the match was
Drayden McKerrow who won 14-0 at 197-pounds over Zach Watson.
Bryson Rowley opened the dual against Midway with a 10-4 decision at 125-pounds over Andrew Vogeler. McKerrow took care of business at 197-pounds with a pin in the final minute of his match. The Panthers would fall to Midway 47-9.
Against Brewton-Parker College, the Panthers took a 42-14 loss.
Matthew Velasco moved up a weight class to 141-pounds and earned a 20-2 technical fall over Keyshaun Taylor. Wesleyan trailed 18-5 heading into 157-pounds when
Cade Johnson caught Bradley Jones on his back for a pin at the five-minute mark. Johnson was leading 5-3 in the second period when a take-down to Jones' back ended the match.
McKerrow finished off his perfect day with a 10-1 major decision over Thomas Crawford. McKerrow outscored Crawford 7-1 in the final period to emerge with the victory.
The Panthers will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana with over 50 other NCAA Division II teams on Saturday for the largest and toughest event on the schedule, the Midwest Classic. The 44
th edition of the Midwest Classic with be contested at the University of Indianapolis and start at 9 AM CT.
