OWENSBORO, KY – The Kentucky Wesleyan Women's Basketball team (4-1, 1-0 GMAC) continued their home dominance on Thursday night, defeating Findlay (4-2, 0-1 GMAC) 67-60 in the season opener.
The Panthers came out of the locker room on fire, shooting six for nine from behind the arc in the first quarter on their way to an early 26-13 lead.
Corina Conley picked up where she left off from Monday night, drilling two of those three-pointers within the first two minutes of the game.
Five points from sophomore guard
Hadley Lytton fueled Wesleyan's 14-3 run in the second quarter to push the lead to 20. The Panthers enjoyed a comfortable 43-28 lead at the break.
The Oilers weren't quite ready to give up, going on a 10-0 run of their own early in the third quarter to cut the lead to just four points.
Sydnee Richetto knocked down a three to stop the bleeding with 5:42 left in the quarter.
Senior guard
Shaylee McDonald took matters into her own hands, scoring seven straight points for the Panthers to push the lead back up to 15. Findlay responded once again, this time going on a 12-0 run to make it a three-point game with under a minute remaining.
Six straight clutch free throws from
Jordyn Barga secured the win for Wesleyan. Conley led the Panthers with 15 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Barga secured the double-double with 13 points and 10 boards to go along with five assists.
The Panthers will be back in action on December 9
th in Canton, Ohio as they take on Walsh University at 12 p.m.
