CANTON, OH. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team won their third straight game over Walsh on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers distanced the Cavilers in the second half as they came away with a 75-43 victory.
Jordyn Barga finished the day with a double-double.
The Panthers won their sixth game in a row to move to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Wesleyan held a 28-21 lead halfway through the contest and opened the third quarter with a 16-4 run to build a 44-25 lead.
The Cavilers (2-4, 1-2 GMAC) struggled to control the ball as the Panthers' stifling defense caused 27 turnovers on the day, including 14 in the second half. The Cavs were out scored in the third quarter 25-10 allowing the Panthers to increase their lead to 53-31.
Jordyn Barga scored six points in the first two quarters, but led the third quarter with 11 points to help expand the Panthers' lead.
Wesleyan converted at 55% from the field in the second half while holding the Cavilers to 33%.
Hadley Lytton gave the Panthers a 25-point lead after a fast-break lay-up with seven minutes left in the contest. Later in the fourth
Jazmin Torres continued to grow the Panthers' advantage to 30-points after her jumper with 90 seconds left in the game.
The contest started slowly as the Panthers held a 19-14 lead after the opening quarter. Both teams shot under 30% from the field in the second quarter as the Panthers went into the locker-room with a 28-21.
Barga finished the game with a double-double, 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Corina Conley added 10 points, five assists, and four steals.
The Panthers will continued their road trip with a stop in Painesville, Ohio on Monday night. The contest between Lake Erie and Wesleyan is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM CT.
