ASHLAND, OH - Facing the South Division Champion Ashland Eagles, the Kentucky Wesleyan Volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 26-24) on Friday night.
Ashland improves to 21-7 (14-2 G-MAC), while Wesleyan drops to 6-21 (4-12 G-MAC).
The first set saw Ashland use a big early lead to cruise to the win, while in the second set they closed on a 9-0 run to get the victory. In the third set, Wesleyan took a 14-11 lead midway through, thanks to a kill from
Nicole Hughes and a block from the duo of
Mariah Jones and
Claire Lange. Some late kills from Lange and
Hallie McGuire put Wesleyan up 24-23, but the Eagles closed with three straight points to get the win.
Hallie McGuire was the only Panther with double figure kills, notching 12 in the match.
Julia Kupper's 18 assists led the team, while
Stella Kleffman and McGuire each tallied seven digs.
As a team, the Panthers hit a respectable .153, but Ashland's .350 hitting percentage was too much to overcome.
The Panthers continue their three game weekend with a trip to Columbus tomorrow, where they will face the Ohio Dominican Panthers. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
