OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team put-up a fight in their lone home match of the season on Tuesday evening. The fifth ranked McKendree University picked-up a 42-12 win over the Panthers inside Jones Gymnasium.
The evening started with a frenzy as
Bryson Rowley, trailing 12-4 in the opening 125-pound match, flipped Jason Strope to his back early in the third period to earn a pin and the win. Rowley's fall came at 5:35 in the match.
Matthew Velasco was up against experience at 133-pounds as Ryan Ripplinger took advantage of few takedowns to win 11-2. In a tight match at 141,
Gabe Adams got taken to the mat as in the middle of the third period by Ronan Schuelke who pressed Adams' shoulders to the mat for the pin.
The Panthers got back on the board at 157-pounds with
Cade Johnson. With a late take-down in the second period, Johnson beat the clock by two seconds to pin Christian Pfeiffer-Laguerre. The pin pulled the Panthers within 16-12 of the Bearcats.
Mckendree's experienced showed in the second half of the evening. As they won three of the final five matches by fall.
The Panthers will travel to Mareitta, Georgia on Saturday to compete in the Life Open. The event will begin at 11 AM CT and continue throughout the day.
