OWENSBORO, KY - Playing in their final home game of the season, the Kentucky Wesleyan Volleyball Team fell 3-0 (13-25, 18-25, 28-30) to the Northwood Timberwolves.
Prior to the game, the Panthers honored their five seniors,
Hallie McGuire,
Nicole Hughes,
Braxton Shelton,
Mariah Jones, and
Ava Rebarchik, for all they have done for the program.
In the game itself, Wesleyan struggled to find a rhythm for the first two sets. falling 25-13 and 25-18, but ended up finding their way in the third set. Down 7-6 early,
Havanah John closed out a 5-0 run for the Panthers with two straight kills, putting the home side up 11-7. Northwood came back to take the lead, but four straight kills from
Nicole Hughes,
Mariah Jones,
Julia Kupper, and
Claire Lange allowed the Panthers to take back the lead at 18-15. The teams battled, with
Hallie McGuire notching two late kills to keep Wesleyan in it. Northwood put two big points together in the end to take the set 30-28.
Leading the way in kills were the seniors, as
Nicole Hughes notched 14 while
Hallie McGuire had nine.
Julia Kupper led with 22 assists, while McGuire reached double-digit digs with 10.
Havanah John's two blocks led the team.
While this may have been Wesleyan's last home game of the season, they still have a few more on the road. the Panther's will travel to Ashland, Ohio, next Friday to take on the Eagles, then will follow that up with a trip to Columbus on Saturday for a battle with Ohio Dominican. First serve on Friday is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
