Volleyball comes back to take down Arrows in five

PEPPER PIKE, OH - It wasn't in the fashion how they'd like to have done it, but the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 (25-13, 21-25, 24-26, 25-22, 15-6) win at Ursuline.

The Panthers improve to 6-18 (4-9 G-MAC), while the Arrows fall to 1-22 (1-10 G-MAC).

Wesleyan put the pedal to the metal in the opening set, taking advantage of nine attacking errors from the home side to go up 16-8. Big kills from Hallie McGuire and Nicole Hughes extended the lead to 20-10, and Wesleyan never looked back, winning 25-13.

The Panthers couldn't re-create their first set success in the second, as they gave up a big run midway to go down 19-14. A McGuire kill off the assist from Julia Kupper tied it at 21, but the Arrows scored the final four points to take the set 25-21.

Tied late in the third set, the teams traded points, eventually seeing the game be tied at 24-24. Ursuline notched a kill and a block to take the set victory, putting them up 2-1.

Things looked dire for Wesleyan in the fourth set, as they saw deficits of both 16-10 and 20-16 in the frame. Down by four, a Claire Lange kill ignited a 7-1 run to turn the 4-point deficit into a 23-21 lead. An Ava Rebarchik kill and an Arrow error led to the 25-22 victory.

Wesleyan dominated the fifth set, quickly going up 9-3 before you could even blink. An ace from Embry Burgess and two huge kills from Hallie McGuire gave the Panthers the game.

Claire Lange and Hallie McGuire led with 15 kills, with Nicole Hughes following close behind with 14. Julia Kupper had another phenominal game, notching 43 assists on no errors. Ava Rebarchik moves into the record book as she recorded six service aces in the game, tying her for ninth all time in KWC history. Mariah Jones led with six blocks, while Embry Burgess (14), Stella Kelffman (12), Julia Kupper (12), Hallie McGuire (11), and Nicole Hughes (10) all recorded double-digit digs.

The Panthers will be back in action next week when they host the Hillsdale Chargers on Friday, October 27th in Jones Gym. First serve is set for 7 p.m. CT.
