PAINESVILLE, OH - The Panthers came out and took care of business on Friday, taking down the Lake Erie Storm 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 26-24). Wesleyan finished with a hitting percentage of .218, their second highest of the season.
Wesleyan improves to 5-18 (3-9 G-MAC), while Lake Erie drops to 3-19 (2-9 G-MAC).Â
Down 9-8 in the opening set, the Panthers mounted a 6-0 run thanks to three kills from
Hallie McGuire. From there Wesleyan controlled the set, eventually getting the final point on a big block by
Hadley Wolfe.Â
The third set was close until the back half, when three straight errors from the Storm and a kill from
Ava Rebarchik led to an 18-13 lead for Wesleyan. Yet again the Panthers closed strong, and a
Julia Kupper ace gave Wesleyan the 25-20 set win.Â
Unlike the first two sets, Wesleyan couldn't pull away from the Storm late. Lake Erie kept it close, and a late 3-0 run eventually gave them a 24-23 lead. Two errors from the home side and an
Embry Burgess ace gave the Panthers the win.Â
Leading the way on the attack for the Panthers was
Hallie McGuire with 10 kills on a .455 hitting percentage, and
Ava Rebarchik with nine on a .615 percentage.
