CEDARVILLE, OH - The Kentucky Wesleyan Volleyball Team managed to take a set off Cedarville, but a strong finish from the Yellow Jackets led to a 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-10, 25-16) win for the home side.
CU improves to 10-11 (5-5 G-MAC) while Wesleyan falls to 4-18 (2-9 G-MAC).
Cedarville got off to a hot start in the opening set, going up 7-2 right off the bat. Despite kills from
Nicole Hughes and
Claire Lange, the Yellow Jackets held a late 20-13 lead. That's when the Panthers went on one of their patented late runs, rattling off seven of the game's next eight points to go down just 21-20. Cedarville then closed with four of the next five points to take the set.
Nicole Hughes led a big second half charge with four late kills to go up 16-12. Tied at 20-20,
Ava Rebarchik used a great pass from
Julia Kupper to notch a kill, and
Claire Lange closed out the set with two kills of her own.
Wesleyan couldn't find a groove in the back half of the game, as the home side took the final two sets by scores of 25-10 and 25-16.
Claire Lange (11),
Nicole Hughes (11), and
Ava Rebarchik (10) all reached double-digit kills on the night.
Julia Kupper had another great night, as she tallied 37 assists with just one error. Rebarchik led with five total blocks, while
Embry Burgess notched 16 digs and two service aces.
The Panthers will compete again tomorrow when they take on the Lake Erie Storm in Painesville, Ohio. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
