Music City Victory

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Trevecca Nazarene furiously looked to find the equalizer in the final two minutes of the match against the Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team on Wednesday night. The Panthers and Hannes Nilsson withstood the barrage of shots at the end to the match to preserve a 2-1 result. Wesleyan earned its fifth victory of the season, their most since the 2014 campaign where the Panthers went 7-8-3.

Nilsson faced five shots in the final 10 minutes of the match, two being on goal. In the 89th minute, Nilsson made a diving stop to his left to deflect the final potential game-tying attempt to pick-up his third win as the Panthers' keeper. In total Nilsson converted on seven saves on the night.

The Trojans (3-4, 1-3 GMAC) struck first in the ninth minute of the match. However, the Panthers immediately answered seconds later to tie the match. Still in the ninth minute, Zach Moore found Santiago Henrich right off the kick-off for the equalizer. Henrich punished the Trojans' defense as they were not in position to stop a quick attack.

The Panthers (5-2-1, 2-1-1 GMAC) took five shots in the opening half and went into intermission facing a 1-1 tie. The physical nature of the match escalated in the second half as both teams looked to win possessions and attack offensively.

Henrich attacked the TNU goal in the 63rd minute. Two defenders got tangled and fouled Henrich in the box, giving the Panthers a penalty kick. Jake Peveler converted the PK to break the tie and give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. The goal marks Peveler's second score on the year.

A double red card in the 73rd minute opened the field as each team played a man short. Nilsson took care of the rest to record the win.

The Panthers will host Malone on Saturday afternoon. The match at Panther Field is scheduled for 3:30PM.
