LEXINGTON, KY - Competing against great competition never hurts, and it showed on Friday and Saturday for the Kentucky Wesleyan Men's Track & Field team. Multiple Panthers set PR's as they took on some of the best DI competition in the country.
The meet was highlighted by
Jayden Freeman, who came in third in the 100m dash with an incredible time of 10.62. Unfortunately, this time was wind-aided, so it didn't count towards any records, but his prelim time of 10.90s set a new PR by 0.07. Freeman also came alive in the 200m dash, becoming the second fastest athlete in KWC history with a time of 21.79. Also competing in the 200 was former 100m world champion Christian Coleman, who won the even with a time of 10.92.
Joshua Moore jumped 2.00m (6-06.75) to take second in the high jump.
Ashton Weaver ran to a school record in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.94.
Matt Wilson set a big PR in the shot put to take fourth with a throw of 14.52m (47-07.75). The men's 4x100 relay, consisting of
Elijah Moss,
Jayden Freeman,
Ashton Weaver and
Keith Williams, set a season's best with a time of 43.29 to take third in the event.
"The staff was excited by how the entire program performed across the facility this weekend. The intention to compete was evident. The energy of the meet was great, and the Panthers rose to the occasion," said head coach
Sol Stephens. "The men were highly competitive while registering 21 Lifetime bests and moves were made on the all-time Panther list. Ashton broke the school record in the 110 Hurdles and is now 3
rd overall in the 400 hurdles. Jayden stands 2
nd in the 100 and 200 as well as Wilson, who is now 2
nd all-time in the Shot and Hammer events. The best part is that there is still room for improvement for all 3 of those guys. The freshmen group of Anaple, Hardin, Harper and Hayes all had double lifetime bests as well as Jackson in the Discus and Hammer. Coach Browning has done a fantastic job learning the throws on the fly and both groups have thrown consistently better this outdoor season.
Keith Williams finished 3
rd in the long and 7
th in the triple after running a PR in the 200 and running on both season best relays. He's finishing his Panther career strong. From today until May 6, the men's focus must shift to improving the little details of the classroom and practice that can help or hurt their desired results."
