MURRAY, KY -
Arthur Powell IV and
Matt Wilson each had strong showing on Saturday, with Powell IV setting two new personal records in the 100m and 200m, while Wilson took third in the shot put.
"Big Matt did really well as expected today," said Head Coach Sol Stephens. "Coach Holt said they have been working to fix some of the kinks he has, and it showed today. The surprise of the day as
Arthur Powell IV, running two lifetime bests. He is trusting the process and is trying his hardest to work on what's been assigned to him.
Landon Binion did really well today. Rule #1 in your first 400m hurdles is to finish standing up, and he did just that. We'll take a look at the film and he will keep improving as the year goes along."
Rarely does someone start out with a lifetime best in their first outdoor meet of the year, but freshman
Arthur Powell IV didn't get that memo, as he came in sixth in both the 100m and 200m with times of 11.28 and 22.88. Wilson also was strong, throwing a distance of 14.14m (46-4.75) in the shot put to take third in the event.
"I feel like I had a good day all things considered," said
Matt Wilson. "The conditions weren't great, but I threw well enough. The goal moving forward is to get better, each and every day."
Running in his first outdoor 800m,
Zach Hardin ran well, finishing in 9th with a time of 2:09.85, narrowly edging out an opponent from Brescia at the line.
Ashton Weaver took seventh in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.62, and freshman
Landon Binion, running in his first ever 400m hurdles race, came in fifth with a strong time of 58.82.
Wilson also three well in the hammer and shot put, taking sixth in the hammer with a throw of 40.75m (133-8), and ninth in the discus, launching it 33.18m (108-10).
Jackson Rape took 13th and 14th in the hammer and shot put, throwing it 26.73m (87-8) in the hammer throw and 28.03 (91-11) in the discus.
