OWENSBORO, KY - After a tough late-inning 8-7 loss to Walsh in game one,
Sarah Linville stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the seventh and hit an RBI single to give the Panthers a 5-4 win over the Cavaliers in game two.
Walsh moves to 5-9 (1-1 G-MAC) while the Panthers move to 8-22 (1-3 G-MAC).
Game One
KWC got on the board early against the Cavaliers, as
Hannah Scheberle took advantage of a Walsh error to score the first run of the game.
Wesleyan scored their second run of the game in the third inning on a
Mikayla Benson RBI to score
Calysta Crum.
Down by four runs entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the Panthers used RBI's from
Sarah Linville,
Grace Scott, Scheberle, Crum and
MaKenna Page to give them a 7-6 lead.
Walsh took two back in the top of the sixth held on to win, despite KWC putting two on in the final inning of play.
Calysta Crum went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Makenna Page went 1-for-1 with a career high three walks.
Mary Morgan (5-5) struck out four in the loss.
Game Two
For a majority of the game, Kentucky Wesleyan dominated, allowing runs in just one inning of play.
The Panthers opened up the scoring with a
Grace Scott RBI double in the first inning. In the third,
Hannah Scheberle scored on a Walsh error for the second time in as many games. Kentucky Wesleyan then went up 3-0 on a
Mikayla Benson RBI single in the fifth.
Walsh nearly broke Panther fans' hearts with a grand slam in the top of the seventh to go up 4-3, but KWC quickly answered back. After a
MaKenna Page walk and two perfect bunts from
Augusta Garr and
Mikayla Benson,
Grace Scott tied things up at 4-4 with an RBI single to right field. Just two batters later and down to the final out,
Sarah Linville stepped up and hit an RBI single to score Garr and win the game 5-4.
Mikayla Benson and
Grace Scott each recorded two hits in the game, with Scott notching a team-high two RBI's.
Cameron Hamilton (3-8) came through with the win for the Panthers.
KWC will be back in action tomorrow when they face the Malone Pioneers at Foster Field tomorrow. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12 p.m.
