NASHVILLE, TN - Playing in their final two games of the Music City Invitational, the Kentucky Wesleyan softball team fell 7-2 to Rockhurst before losing 7-5 in a nailbiter to McKendree.
Game One
Rockhurst (3-3) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, scoring all seven of their runs in the opening three innings to lead them to the 7-2 victory.
Sarah Linville went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss, while
Mikayla Benson went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Calysta Crum and
Grace Scott each scored a run for the Panthers.
Cameron Hamilton (0-4) struck out three in the loss.
Mary Morgan came in and pitched four shutout innings in relief.
Game Two
Kentucky Wesleyan got out to an early lead against the Bearcats (3-1), with
Hannah Scheberle scoring a run in the top of the first on an RBI from
Calysta Crum.
Mary Morgan then doubled KWC's advantage with an RBI single in the second.
After a McKendree run in the bottom of the second, Wesleyan went right back on the offensive, scoring two runs in the third on a 2 RBI double from
Grace Scott.
Tied at four in the fourth,
Meryck Hardley notched an RBI on a sac fly to score
Mikayla Benson and give Wesleyan a 5-4 lead. McKendree scored three runs in the final three innings to win the game 7-5.
Grace Scott went 2-for-3 with two RBI's in the loss. Scott (0-4) took the loss for the Panthers. The nine hits from the Panthers is their most since they put up 13 on Lincoln Memorial earlier this season.
Kentucky Wesleyan will now gear up for the Blue Bridge Battle this weekend, which will take place at Jack C. Fisher Park. Wesleyan's opening game will take place on Friday at 2 p.m. against Missouri S&T. More info about the tournament will come out later this week.
