MONTEVALLO, AL - The Kentucky Wesleyan baseball team competed well against the #24 Montevallo Falcons, but they left nine runners stranded on base and fell 7-3 in the opening game of a three-game series.
With the win the Falcons move to 9-0 on the year while the Panthers drop to 0-4.
Following three runs in the opening three innings for Montevallo, KWC used a
Kyle Werries triple to right field to score
Hunter Combs and
Robert Chayka to get right back in the game. After a few scoreless innings from pitcher
Rylan Thomas, Wesleyan tied it up at 3 on a sacrifice fly by
Jaret Humphrey.
Wesleyan threatened in the top of the seventh but couldn't put a run across the plate. Montevallo took advantage, scoring four runs in the final two innings to take this one 7-3.
Robert Chayka went 3-for-5 with a run scored while
Kyle Werries went 2-for-4 with two RBI's.
Rylan Thomas (0-1) took the loss for the Panthers.
Wesleyan has a chance at redemption tomorrow when they face the Falcons at 1 p.m. CT in Montevallo, Al.
