MONTEVALLO, AL - The bats came out a little to late againt Montevallo on Saturday, as Wesleyan's three ninth inning runs weren't enough to come back and take down the undefeated Falcons. Montevallo built up an 9-0 lead after five and took this one 11-6.
Montevallo moves to 10-0 on the season while Wesleyan falls to 0-5.
After Wesleyan left two stranded on base in the first inning, Montevallo took advantage, scoring nine unanswered runs in the opening five innings of play.
After
Ben Wilcoxson was hit by a pitch to start the sixth inning,
Sammy Rowan launched a homer to left field to score the first two runs for the Panthers. Wilcoxson then added another run in the top of the seventh thanks to a bases loaded walk to score
Jaret Humphrey.
Down 11-3 entering the final inning of play,
Kyle Werries took advantage of a throwing error to cross the plate for the Panther's fourth run of the game.
Robert Chayka then earned a bases loaded walk and
Hunter Combs tallied an RBI single, but it wasn't enough in the end.
Kyle Werries went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while
Sammy Rowan led with two RBI's.
Brayden Bush (0-2) took the loss for the Panthers.
Timmy Rogers struck out five in relief.
The Panthers will have one more chance at redemption tomorrow when they play in their final game against the Falcons at 12 p.m. CT.
