Panthers split opening day in Alabama

HUNTSVILLE, AL - After falling in their opening game to Young Harris, the Panthers (1-1) took down Tuskegee 9-3 for their first win of the new season.

Game One

KWC opened up their day by falling 23-0 to Young Harris (1-2). The Mountain Lions used a big fifth inning to pull away from the Panthers late.

Senior Lacie Mills went 2-for-2 in the loss.

Game Two

Kentucky Wesleyan used a big first inning to propel them to a 9-3 victory over Tuskegee (0-2) in their second game of the day.

Wesleyan opened up the game by putting loading the bases before a Hannah Scheberle single allowed Meryck Hardley to score the game's opening run. Calysta Crum kept the momentum going with a big triple on the next at bat, scoring both Augusta Garr and Scheberle. Crum preceded to steal home on the very next play and Mary Morgan scored on a Mikayla Benson RBI single to make it 5-0 heading in to the bottom of the inning.

Following two runs by the Golden Tigers in the bottom of the first, KWC used RBI doubles by Crum and Grace Scott to extend their lead to 8-2 after two.

KWC scored their final insurance run on an RBI by Scheberle in the third and went on to take the game by a 9-3 score.

In the first start of her career, Mary Morgan (1-0) went the distance, striking out six and walking just three in the win.

Meryck Hardley, Augusta Garr, and Mikayla Benson each went 2-for-3 against the Golden Tigers. Garr and Calysta Crum each scored two runs and the Panthers struck out just once as a team in the win.

KWC will be right back at it tomorrow when they face #12 Indianapolis at 10:30 a.m. CT and Spring Hill at 1 p.m. CT.
