Women's Basketball takes on Indiana in exhibition game

BLOOMINGTON, IN - It was a night to remember for the Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team, as they traveled to Bloomington, Indiana to take on the #11 Indiana Hoosiers. The Panthers held their own in the contest, but eventually fell 86-43 to their competitors from the Big Ten.

Shiya Hoosier got things going early for the Panthers, hitting a three on her first shot of the game to give Wesleyan an early 3-2 lead. After a 11-0 run from the Hoosier, Corina Conley knocked in a three and Cali Nolot powered in a layup to make it a 13-8 game. After another Indiana run, Indiana native Jordyn Barga hit a deep two-pointer at the buzzer to make it 23-12 after one.

Barga kept it going at the start of the second quarter, hitting a three on the Panther's first shot of the frame. With six minutes left in the half, Myah Montgomery hit a three and Conley followed with a layup to cut the lead to 33-20. Indiana finished the period strong and took a 43-22 heading into the break.

Midway through the third quarter, the Panthers went on a mini 8-4 run capped off by a Cali Nolot jump shot. Shiya Hoosier had the highlight of the night when she hit a near half court shot to beat the third quarter buzzer.

The Panthers came out hot in the fourth quarter, with Tahlia Walton powering in a layup to make it a 69-41 game with 6:33 left. The Hoosier turned on the jets, getting out to multiple fast breaks before Reeva Hammelman knocked in a turnaround jumper to with a minute left in the game to give the Panthers their point total for the night. 

The Panthers shot 18-49 (36.7%) from the field and 5-22 (22.7%) from three. Wesleyan forced Indiana into 12 turnovers in the contest.

Corina Conley led the way with 12 points, while Jordyn Barga came through with a strong five point, six rebound performance. Shaylee McDonald dished out four assists in the loss. 

The Panthers open up their regular season next week when they travel to Bolivar, Missouri, to face Drury and Southwest Baptist next weekend. Wesleyan will take on Drury on Friday, November 11 at 4:30 p.m. CT.
