Hinchcliffe nets brace in Panthers victory

Owensboro, Ky. - The Kentucky Wesleyan Women's Soccer Team found themselves in a battle on Saturday night, but three total goals by the Hinchcliffe sisters and one by Madisyn Hunt were enough to put away the Georgetown College Tigers by a score of 4-2.

It was senior Natalie Hinchcliffe who got the ball rolling for the Panthers, powering in a long shot past the Tiger goalkeeper to put the Panthers up 1-0 after just 10 minutes of play. Georgetown got one right back however, and made it a 1-1 game in the 15th minute. Just three minutes before the halftime whistle sounded, sophomore Chloe Hinchcliffe threaded a perfect pass through the defense to find the foot of senior Madisyn Hunt. Hunt, who is the leading goalscorer in KWC history, knew what to do with it and placed a perfect shot past the keeper to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead going into the break.

Chloe Hinchcliffe opened the second half just like her sister in the first, netting a goal early in the period to give KWC a more comfortable 3-1 lead. Just like the first half, Georgetown came right back, scoring their second goal of the game on a free kick from 25 yards out. In the 70th minute of play, Hunt managed to get out on a breakaway and was taken down by the goalie, earning a penalty kick for her team. Chloe Hinchcliffe, always calm under pressure, stepped up and easily put the PK past the outstretched arms of Georgetown's keeper to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead, which they would take to the final whistle to notch their second victory of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Reegan Garrity had six saves in the win.

The Panthers held the edge in total shots in the contest (17-14) while both teams were tied in shots on goal (8). KWC also led the way in corner kicks (4-0) and fouls (11-5).

Kentucky Wesleyan will be back in action this Wednesday, Sept. 8 as they play host to the Bearcats of McKendree University. First kick is scheduled for 3 p.m.
