Memphis, TN - The Kentucky Wesleyan Volleyball Team showed a lot of heart today, gutting out a gritty four-set victory against Christian Brothers University before falling in the nightcap to Southwest Baptist 3-0.
Game 1
The Panthers and buccaneers were locked in a back and forth battle in the opening set before
Lilly Trump put two kills away to win set one, 25-21.
CBU was in control of set two from the get-go, taking it by a score of 25-18.
In set three,
Nicole Martin capped off a seven point run with a monster kill to put the Panthers up 15-8. KWC controlled the set the rest of the way to take it 25-18.
In a fourth set that saw CBU come from behind to tie the panthers at 23, Martin and Trump took control and closed out the Buccaneers with two straight skills to take the set 25-23.
Lilly Trump led the way for the Panthers with a career high 18 kills, followed closely behind by
Nicole Martin (14).
Karrah Cron dished out 36 assists in the win, while
Ava Rebarchik and
Diana Wesolosky each had three blocks.
Game 2
In the nightcap, Southwest Baptist defeated the Pnathers in three sets, 25-13, 25-11, 25-14.
Nicole Martin led the Panthers with six kills, while
Karrah Cron racked up 17 assists.
The Panthers return home with a 2-2 record and will be back in action at home next week for the Panther Invitational. Kentucky Wesleyan's opening matchup is against the University of Montevallo on Friday, Sept. 10 at 11:00 a.m.
