OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team was defeated by the University of Findlay on Saturday morning at Jones Gymnasium. A night after pushing Great Midwest front-runner, Hillisdale, to the limit, the Panthers contested the opening set while the Oilers fought off a late comeback.
The opening set went back and forth throughout. The Panthers (2-10, 0-4 GMAC) fell behind 19-15, but after a kill by
Karrah Cron, Wesleyan pulled even at 23. However, 50-50 line call allowed the Oilers to get to set point and they quickly took advantage in closing out the frame 25-23.
Diana Wesolosky finished the opening set with six kills.
The Oilers (8-1, 4-0 GMAC) did not commit an error in the second set and held an attacking percentage of .458. Findlay took a 2-0 lead after a 25-13 win in the second set.
As Findlay looked to coast in the third set, the Panthers had other ideas. Wesleyan trailed 10-2 from the start, but quickly flipped the script and pulled within 12-8. However, the momentum was stalled by a brief and timely Findlay delay in the contest. The Oilers shut-out the Panthers with a 25-17 win.
Wesolosky finished with eight kills while
Nicole Martin also recorded eight kills. Cron had 14 assists while
Maggie Vincent collected 14 digs.
The Panthers will host Trevecca on Tuesday evening. The match is scheduled to start at 7 PM.
