Panthers Golden, Topping Walsh in OT

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team picked-up its second win of the season on Thursday night in dramatic fashion. The Panthers defeated Walsh 2-1 in overtime to claim a crucial road Great Midwest victory. Chloe Hinchcliffe recorded three points on the night with a goal and an assist.

The Cavilers (4-3 GMAC) scored in the sixth minute of the match, taking a quick 1-0 lead. The Cavs made the most of their attempts in the first period as they ended the half with two shots, both on goal. The Panthers (2-3-1 GMAC) would take five shots in the opening half, three on goal.

In the 39th minute, Wesleyan found the equalizer. Shelby Taylor found Chloe Hinchcliffe through the Walsh defense for her second goal of the season. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Panthers found open space offensively in the second period, but the match remained tied. In a furious final two minutes of regulation Wesleyan kept the action in front of the Walsh net. The Panthers could not convert on a corner kick in the final minute as the contest moved to extra time.

Overtime was more of the same as the Panthers kept the pressure on the Cavilers. Walsh managed to stage a breakaway midway through the extra period, but the Panthers took control of the possession at midfield. This time Chloe Hinchcliffe found Elizabeth Collier who shook a defender and converted her first game-winner of the season.

Reegan Garrity made four saves on the night, including one at the beginning of overtime. Both Chloe and Natalie Hinchcliffe took three shots on the night. In total the Panthers took nine shots, five on goal. The match last just over 94 minutes before Collier put an end to it.

The Panthers will travel to Vienna, West Virginia on Saturday April 17th for a match-up against Ohio Valley. The match is scheduled to start at 11AM CT.
