Dominican Gets the Better of Wesleyan

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team lost to Ohio Dominican on Sunday afternoon. ODU utilize a one-hitter to top the Panthers in the opener while Wesleyan fell 4-2 in the finale.
 
GAME 1: ODU 13, KWC 0
Dominican (21-12, 11-5 GMAC) scored their first eight runs with two outs. ODU scored one in the first, four in the second, and three in the third to take an 8-0 lead. They would tack on four more in the fourth. Mikayla Benson accounted for the lone hit for the Panthers (11-20, 4-10 GMAC).
 
GAME 2: ODU 4, KWC 2
Evyn Hendrickson produced another stellar performance in the finale as she cruised through the first three innings without any damage. In the fourth a pair of errors prolonged the inning and ODU took advantage by scoring three runs.
 
mikayala bensonDominican added another run in the top of the fifth, but the Panthers rallied in the bottom half. Madison Scott singled up the middle with one out. Hendrickson followed with a crushing homerun over the left-centerfield fence to bring the Panthers within 4-2. The two-run blast forced ODU into a pitching change over the final 2.1 innings.
 
Wesleyan put runners in scoring position in each of the last two innings. In the seventh, with a runner on second, Macy Flanigan ripped a line drive into center that was snagged for the final out of the game.
 
Hendrickson pitched another complete game, allowing four runs, one earned on four hits with 12 strikeouts against one walk. She was also two for four at the plate with a homerun and two RBIs. Madison Scott also collected two hits on the day.
 
The Panthers will host Trevecca Nazarene University on Tuesday. First pitch at Foster Field is scheduled for 1 PM.
