Panthers' Firepower Too Much for Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team continued its onslaught against the University of Findlay on Monday afternoon. The Panthers picked-up two more wins over the Oilers to complete the four-game sweep. Wesleyan took today's opener 12-4 and handed Findlay a 19-8 loss in the finale to move to 12-0 in Great Midwest play.
 
GAME 1: KWC 12, FINDLAY 4
The Panthers (15-4, 12-0 GMAC) got a solid pitching performance from Seth Wright in the opener. Wright got the win by completing five innings of work, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.
 
Wesleyan scored four runs in the top of the second to give Wright plenty of run support. Ben Wilcoxson drove in the first run of the game with a single to left. A pass ball scored another run while Cody Bridges drove-in two with a single to left.
 
benny wilcoxsonThe Panthers added two more runs in the top of the fifth and after five innings, Wesleyan held a 6-1 lead. The offense did not slow down thereafter as they added three runs in both the sixth and seventh inning.
 
Wilcoxson was two for three with two RBIs. Bridges drove in three runs while Robert Chayka finished with two hits as well.
 
GAME 2: KWC 19, FINDLAY 8
The Panthers hit four homeruns in the finale. Jaret Humphrey clubbed his first of the game into the wind and over the left centerfield wall in the top of the second inning. His homerun was apart of two runs in the frame. Humphrey homered again in the fourth to extend the lead to 3-1.
 
However, four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning gave Findlay (9-14, 7-9 GMAC) a 5-3 lead. The advantage was short lived as the Panthers continued to apply pressure in the top of the fifth. Ellis started the seven-run inning with a two-run homerun to dead centerfield.
 
Brayden Sisson followed with a single and later scored on Chayka's two-run double. An error and wild pitch allowed the Panthers to add a few more runs as they left the fifth with a 10-5 lead.
 
Wilcoxson plated two more runs in the sixth with a single. In the seventh the Panthers scored five runs on two hits and an error to hold a 17-8 lead. Joseph Burke knocked his eighth homerun of the season in the eighth while Humphrey drove-in another run in the frame to account for the Panthers' 19th run.
 
Benton McGill won his third game of the season with six innings of work, allowing eight runs, five earned on eight hits with four strikeouts. Chayka finished the game four for six with with a double and four RBIs. Humphrey was three for four with two homeruns and three RBIs. Wilcoxson as three for five with three RBIs. The Panthers outscored Findlay 67-24 in the four-game series.
 
The Panthers will host the University of Southern Indiana on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch at Panther Park is scheduled for 2 PM.
