OWENSBORO- In a battle for the title of the best Panther men's soccer team in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, the Kentucky Wesleyan (2-0-2) and Ohio Dominican (0-2-2) squads finished their match knotted in a 1-1 tie at Steele Stadium Thursday night.
The host Panthers got on the scoreboard early, with
Julian Gonzalez finding the back of the net with his fifth goal of the season just three minutes into the match. Gonzalez sent a shot across the face of the goal from the far side, finishing into the bottom left of the frame on a ball from
Declan Sandifer, to put Kentucky Wesleyan up 1-0.
The Gonzalez goal would hold up through the rest of the first half and until the 68th minute of play, when Ohio Dominican's Jaxson Szabo sent a ball across the face of the goal. Szabo's cross found the foot of Zach Ziolo, who tied the match at 1-1 with a goal.
The match would remain tied through the remainder of regulation and both overtime periods, sending the fans home without knowing which GMAC Panther squad would reign supreme.
The Panthers are back in action Saturday, playing host to GMAC foe Cedarville at Steele Stadium. The match is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
