Panthers Win Third Straight

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team won its third game in a row on Sunday morning. The Panthers defeated Purdue Northwest 6-0 on a record day. Evyn Hendrickson pitched one-hitter breaking the program record with 16 strikeouts in a single game.

Like yesterday's matchup with the Pride (2-3) the pitchers dominated early. Through four innings the two teams were knotted in a scoreless tie. Hendrickson faced 13 batters through four frames and struck-out 11.

In the bottom of the fifth the Panthers' (4-7) Meryck Hardley led off the inning with a single and moved into scoring position with one out. Madison Scott singled through the middle of the diamond and Hardley hustled around to score the first run of the game.

Wesleyan managed to load the bases later in the frame for Macy Flanigan. Flanigan crushed the 2-1 pitch over the centerfield fence for her first grand slam of her career, giving the Panthers a 5-0 lead

Madison Scott drove in another run in the sixth with an RBI single. Hendrickson took care of the rest as she completed her fifth game of the season allowing just one hit. Hendrickson walked one while striking-out 16. The hard throwing right hander also recorded two hits on the day.  The previous record of 15 strikeouts in a game was set on April 14th, 2012 by Ashlee Winstead.

Madison Scott and Flanigan each recorded two hits on the day while Hardley was three for four with two runs scored.

The Panthers will play Bresica on Saturday March 20th. First pitch at Foster Field is scheduled for 1PM.
