OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team opened the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday afternoon against Ohio Dominican. In a tight match, Wesleyan fell 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-15, 25-13) while ODU remained unbeaten on the season.
Dominican (5-0 GMAC) held a 19-13 lead late in the opening set, but the Panthers (1-4 GMAC) mounted an attack. Wesleyan won seven of the next eight points to climb within one, 21-20, forcing ODU to call timeout. ODU escaped the opening set 26-24 after some tense moments down the stretch.
Lilly Trump recorded six kills in the opening frame while the Panthers could not overcome earlier errors. ODU ran off seven straight points to start the second set, but the lead did not last long. Trump produced two kills in the Panthers' own 7-0 rally that immediatly tied the set.
Alex Davis tied the set again, this time at 16-16 with kill later in the frame. Two ODU errors gave the Panthers the lead for good as they evened the match after a 25-23 victory.
Carlee Widmer recorded five assists in the second to along with one ace.
ODU held a .258 attacking percentage in the third set as they took a 2-1 lead after a 25-15 win. The Panthers faced a similar fate in the fourth set as Dominican ended the match with a 25-13 victory.
Trump finished the match with 13 kills and .233 attacking percentage. She also recorded 10 digs and two aces. Widmer dished out 18 assists while
Karrah Cron added 11 assists. Cron also notched seven kills and 12 digs.
Nilah Roy led defensively with 21 digs.
The Panthers will host Tiffin on Wednesday afternoon. The match at Jones Gymnasium is scheduled for 1 PM.
