OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team fell in straight sets to Tiffin University on Wednesday afternoon. It took Wesleyan some time in the early sets to find their offensive rhythm as errors proved to be too costly.
The Dragons (4-1 GMAC) stormed through the opening set 25-12. Tiffin held a .312 attacking percentage in the opening frame and never trailed throughout. The second set was the opposite of the first, a back-and forth battle.
Tied at 12-12 in the second, the Dragons won the next four points to give themselves a cushion.
Ava Rebarchik's kill later in the frame brought the Panthers back to within two, 23-21. However, Tiffin won two of the last three points to escape with the 25-22 victory.
The third set featured nine ties and five lead changes as the Panthers looked prime to cut into the Tiffin lead. Leading 11-6 the Dragons struggled to the finish. Back-to-back aces from
Karrah Cron, followed but a kill from
Lilly Trump brought Wesleyan within 15-14. A Tiffin error followed that tied the frame.
The set remained tied till 22-22 when back-to-back kills moved the Dragons to match point. Two points later the set ended 25-23. Rebarchik finished with seven kills while Trump added six kills and 16 digs. Cron dished out 14 assists and recorded three aces.
Nilah Roy led defensively with 19 digs.
The Panthers will host Cedarville on Saturday afternoon. The match is scheduled to start at 1 PM.
