MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team continued its season with two duals on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers lost to Allen University 30-26 before falling to Huntingdon 31-15.
In the hotly contested match with Allen, the Panthers (1-7) ran out to a quick lead.
Adam Bender recorded a pin at 125-pounds as did
Caleb Craig at 141.
Trevor South recorded a technical fall at 149-pounds. The two pins and tech fall coupled with
Andrew Parker winning by decision at 133-pounds gave Wesleyan a 20-0 lead. .
Brennan McElroy notched a pin at 285-pounds to push Wesleyan over the top.
With forfeits the match was still in balance heading to the finish as the Panthers trailed 26-24.
Against Huntingdon the Panthers did their damage in the lower weight classes. Bender picked-up a 5-0 decision to start the dual. In a tight 133-pound match Parker took a 4-3 lead into the final period. After an escape and takedown by Andrew Smith, Parker trailed 6-4. Parker was able to tie the match and force overtime as he eventually outlasted Smith, recording a takedown for the win.
Craig earned an 11-2 major decision to give Wesleyan a 10-0 lead. South earned a technical fall at 149-pounds. However, Huntingdon won the last six matches to with the dual.
The Panthers will prepare for NCAA Regionals on February 27
th in Edmond, Oklahoma.
