Panthers Pounce on Lynx, Fall to Hawks at Charger Chillout

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team picked up their first win of the season on Saturday, going 1-1  on the final day of the Charger Chillout.  The Panthers walked it off against Lincoln before falling to Shorter.

Game 1: Lincoln 0 – KWC 1
It all came down to the seventh inning as neither team was able to plate a run earlier.  The Lynx put a runner on second with one out in the top of the inning but Evyn Hendrickson struck out the side to send it to the bottom of the seventh.

Grace Scott started the inning off with a single laced up the middle.  Pinch runner Bailey Woodall to move into scoring position.  After a pair of strikeouts, Meryck Hardley sent a fly ball to center field.  The ball went off the centerfielders glove, allowing Woodall to score and give Wesleyan the 1-0 win.

Hendrickson finished with 12 strikeouts, five hits and zero runs in her first complete game victory of the season.

Hannah Schberle finished two-for-three at the plate while Madison Stumbo and Grace Scott each recorded one hit.

Game 2: KWC 4 – Shorter 6
The Hawks struck first in the bottom of the fourth, plating one run on a RBI single.  Wesleyan responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.  Kaitlyn LaSala drove in Madison Scott with a single up the middle to even the game at one.  Grace Scott laid a single down the right field line to move LaSala to third.  Mikayla Benson grounded out to the pitcher, but LaSala was able to come home and give Wesleyan a 2-1 lead.

The lead was short lived as Short answered back with three runs in the bottom of the inning.  A sacrifice fly and a two-run single put the Hawks ahead by one.

The Panthers evened the score once again in the top of the fifth.  Back-to-back singles from Madison Scott and Cameron Hamilton put two runners on with one out.  LaSala notched a sacrifice fly to score Scott.  Grace Scott then drove in two with a ground ball that ricocheted off the shortstop into no-man's land, allowing Hamilton and Scott to score.

Shorter laid down a sacrifice bunt to put two runners in scoring position with one out in the bottom of the sixth.  A double to the gap in the left center allowed both runners to score, putting the Hawks ahead 6-4.  The Panthers had a chance to make some noise in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs but they were unable to plate any runs.
