Box Score 2 OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team lost a pair of games on Saturday at the Blue Bridge Battle at Fisher Park. The Panthers fell to Quincy in the opening game 14-5 and lost an extra inning thriller 5-4 to Northwood.
The Hawks (3-5) utilized a strong pitching performance and took advantage offensively with big innings to set-back the Panthers.
The Panthers (1-5) scored a run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead over the Timberwolves.
Macy Flanigan drove in the game's first run with an RBI single.
Evyn Hendrickson pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the opening inning and left six runners stranded through four innings.
The Timberwolves broke through in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game with a two-run double. Hendrickson recovered and pitched three more shut-out innings as the game moved into the ninth tied 2-2.
As tiebreaker rules went into place the Panthers broke the tie in the ninth with a sacrifice fly from
Grace Scott. Northwood answered in the bottom half of the inning with their own sac fly. In the 10
th the Panthers responded as
Lacie Mills was trying to advance the runner, a throwing error allowed the go-ahead run to cross the plate.
Northwood ended the game with a two-run walk off homerun in the bottom of the 10
th. Hendrickson completed nine innings allowing five runs, three earned on seven hits with five strikeouts.
Grace Scott finished two for three with an RBI.
The Panthers are scheduled to play two more games on Sunday against Notre Dame College and Southern Indiana. The first game against Notre Dame is scheduled to start at 12 PM.
