Wesleyan Drops Match in Canton

NORTH CANTON, OHIO – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team fell in straight sets to Walsh University on Saturday afternoon by a tally of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-23.

In the first set Wesleyan trailed 15-8 but rifled off five straight points to make it a two-point deficit.  Karrah Cron recorded three kills in the run while Lilly Trump added another.  Walsh pulled away to 21-15 before Kenlee Perryman halted their momentum with a kill.  Alexa Davis added a kill of her own before Jess Legg and Ava Rebarchik tallied a block to make it 21-18.  Moments later Rebarchik fought off set-point with another block before Walsh took the first set 25-21 on a service error.

Momentum wasn't on Wesleyan's side in the second set as they scored back-to-back points only twice in the set.  The Panthers trailed by three before the Cavs utilized a 6-0 run to take a 14-5 lead and never looked back.

Wesleyan trailed 16-12 in the third set before four straight kills evened the score at 16.  Perryman and Trump both recorded a pair in the run.  The Panthers found a spark after a Walsh service error and back-to-back kills from Alexa Davis put them ahead at 20-19.  The Cavs responded with three straight points before kills from Rebarchik and Trump knotted the score at 23.  Walsh scored the final two points of the set to take the match.

Cron finished with a team-high 11 kills along with 12 assists and 11 digs.  Trump recorded seven kills while Davis had six.  Carlee Widmer also dished out 12 assists.

The Panthers return home next weekend for their final home stand of the season.  Wesleyan will host Ursuline on Friday night followed by Lake Erie on Saturday.

The Panthers will remain in the Canton metropolitan area to play Walsh on Saturday afternoon. The match is scheduled for 12 PM CT.
