Panthers Fall in Four, Nilah Roy Reaches 1,000 Digs

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team fell in four sets to Ursuline on Friday night. The Panthers won the opening set before losing critical points late in the following three sets. Nilah Roy recorded 14 digs on the night, surpassing 1,000 career digs.
 
The Panthers (1-8 GMAC) controlled the opening set, recording 12 kills in the frame against six errors. Trailing 6-5, Wesleyan won seven of the next eight to take a comfortable 12-7 lead. The Panthers' steady attack resulted in a 25-19 victory in the frame.
 
In the second set the Arrows (3-5 GMAC) got off to an early 11-9, but the Karrah Cron capped-off four unanswered points with a kill. The Panthers held a 13-11 lead, but a back-and-forth battle continued. Ursuline climbed back to hold a 18-15 lead.
 
Back-to-back kills from Kenlee Perryman and Alexa Davis brought the Panthers back to one point. Another Arrow rally shifted momentum. Wesleyan trailed 23-18, but five straight points tied the set. A well placed attacked on the ensuing point gave Ursuline set point. Ursuline escaped with a 25-23 win to even the match.
 
The Arrows took a 2-1 lead after a 25-21 win of the third set. The set was tied at 16, but the miscues added up for the Panthers. In the fourth set, the Panthers suffered the same fate as the frame was tied at 17 before six straight points gave the Arrows a commanding lead and helped propel them to a 25-19 win.
 
Lilly Trump finished with 13 kills and two block assists. Both Davis and Ava Rebarchik added 10 kills. Cron had nine kills, 21 assists, and 15 digs on the night. Roy collected 14 kills to achieve a career milestone.
 
The Panthers will host Lake Erie on Saturday afternoon. The match is scheduled to start at 1 PM.
